The exposition presents the diversity and achievements of the Bulgarian artists in the genre вЂњLandscapes of AntiquitiesвЂќ, its development as a visual equivalent of the culture of preservation of our artistic heritage. There are 300 works of great Bulgarian artists from the first half of the 20th century. Their works depict famous Bulgarian antiquities such as the St. Sofia Church, Boyana Church, Rila Monastery, Veliko Tarnovo and other old Bulgarian Revival towns. It includes the remarkable series with famous monuments outside Bulgaria such as the Tsarigrad and Roman series of Vladimir Dimitrov вЂ“ Maystora, the Italian cycle of Boris Denev, the Athenian cycle of Sirak Skitnik.
The exhibition also presents the scientific heritage of the great Bulgarian art critic Andrey Protich, with an emphasis on his contribution to the institutional and legislative building of the system of preservation of the Bulgarian artistic heritage. Gradually the good knowledge of antiquities is becoming a sign of culture and education among Bulgarians. The works of Bulgarian artists also become a factor in nurturing the attitude towards antiquities and the culture of their preservation.
