Sredets Gallery at the Ministry of Culture

The exhibition is under a project financed by the National Culture Fund to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and is related to events carried out during the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the European Union which are to present cultural heritage and achievements of contemporary Bulgarian art. It is organized by the Association “International Graphic Centre – Varna”, established in 1995.

All works in the current exposition are part of the fund of the International Print Biennial - Varna, which collection, after all nineteen editions of the forum, numbers 1652 graphic prints of artists from 57 countries.

The exhibition “Masterpieces from the fund of International Print Biennial, Varna” presents 100 prints of artists from all leading international graphic schools with contribution to the development of graphic art during the latter half of the 20th century and the early of the 21st century. It consolidates the Biennial as a panorama of printmaking art and stands as a proof that Bulgarian graphics is an integral part of the processes in Europe and worldwide.

The exposition holds out an opportunity for tracing back regional as well as world printmaking trends. It includes works by 50 Bulgarian and 50 international artists from 41 countries. Along with the strong presence of printmaking schools from Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Serbia, France, Czech Republic and Japan, the interest is also triggered by countries such as Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Iran, Ireland, Cuba, Malaysia, Morocco, Mexico, Nepal, Thailand, Tunisia and others.

The exhibition works reveal various artistic techniques, ideas and quests. They are a retrospection and a demonstration of the traditions, professionalism and diversity of styles of printmaking artists such as Vincent Hloznik, Paul Wunderlich, Jose Hernandez, Herman Hebler, Albin Brunovsky, Vladimir Gadjovich, Dushan Kalay, Zoran Todovic, Miodrag  Duric – Dado, Jiri Anderle, Akira Kurosaki, Kunito Nagaoka, Tomiyuki Sakuta, Vasil Zahariev, Sidonia Atanasova, Pencho Balkanski, Hristo Gradechliev, Zdravko Zahariev, Lyubomir Yordanov, Zhana Kosturkova, Stefan Markov, Hristo Neykov, Todor Panayotov, Rumen Skorchev, Mihail Petkov, Borislav Stoev, Stoyan Stoyanov and others.
