A conference on "Consumer rights and consumer protection policy today. Can we do better?" will be held on 30th April 2018 in Hall 8 of the National Palace of Culture. The event will be dedicated to the new legislation package of the European Commission ”A new deal for consumers”, which will be presented by the European Commissioner Mrs. Vera Jourova. The issues to be discussed will include the need of transparency of the online markets, the strengthening and simplification of the requirements for providing information stipulated in the consumer protection legislation, the planning of proportionate, effective and preventive financial sanctions for violating the legislation. The new Directive for protection of the collective consumer interests will also be discussed.
The participants in this conference include: the European Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Protection and Gender Equality – Mrs. Vera Jourova, the Deputy Director-General of the European Commission's DG for Justice and Consumers – Mr. Francisco Fonseca Morillo, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Bulgaria – Mr. Emil Karanikolov, the Chairman of the Commission for Consumer Protection – Mr. Dimitar Margaritov, representatives of the academic community and leading experts in the sphere of European consumer protection legislation.
